Margaret Trainor, Artist in Textile and Mixed Media

I create evocative conceptual art in 3D, soft sculpture, assemblage and installed objects.

The agenda of my “socially conscious art” is to stimulate conversation around social issues often sidelined or dismissed. These works are a response to a lifelong passion for human rights and social justice and are often confronting. Each piece has its own integrity in relation to the theme it embraces.

At the other end of the spectrum, I delight in creating “flights of fabrication and follies” - objects of whimsy, colour and minor spectacle. I enjoy using textiles as a sensitive and subversive medium, married to wood and metal. Textile is a disarming medium. It is so evocative and responsive. It beguiles and engages. It materializes and clothes my concepts.

Embellishing in colour, texture and ephemera add to the wonder.

April to May 2012 I will be studying 3D textiles in UK under Janet Edmonds.
On my return I will be running master classes with Kraftkolour in disperse dyes.
